Cafe Santa Fe has closed two of its franchise restaurants and repossessed another two from franchisees Sad and Frances Haleema, known collectively as Abu-Haleema Enterprises.

“We revoked the franchise,” said Tom Flores, owner of the Fayetteville-based chain.

Flores said the first Cafe Santa Fe, which opened in 1982 at 25 Center St. in Fayetteville, was closed Sept. 25 along with the location at 117 W. Walnut St. in Rogers. Abu-Haleema owns the building and real estate at both of those locations.

“We may go in there and buy them back, but we’re not sure,” Flores said. “We’re not sure yet. We’ll have to let the dust settle.”

Flores also took over operation of the Cafe Santa Fe at 1860 N. Crossover Road in Fayetteville and 1402 S. Shane Lane in Bentonville.

Cafe Santa Fe has 12 stores that remain in operation: 10 in Arkansas and one each in Oklahoma and Missouri.
