An infinite number of paint colors stock the shelves of Steve and Melanie Houston’s new Rogers business, The Paint Center Inc. Steve Houston depends on his 15 years of color-mixing experience and a computer system to produce hues for professional and amateur painters in Northwest Arkansas.

The Paint Center is the only shop in Rogers to offer the Glidden brand of paint. It also stocks Devoe paint and various trade supplies. Paint contractors and other volume customers are the business’ target clientele.

Before opening The Paint Center in July, Steve Houston co-owned a similar store in Fayetteville. To shorten his daily drive from Rogers, Houston sold his portion to his former partner and launched the new venture with his wife.

Houston said he wants to sell an average of 5,000 gallons per month. The initial inventory for the 2,000-SF showroom cost about $75,000. The couple staff the shop alone, and Melanie Houston performs some outsourcing duties for J.B. Hunt Transport Services.
