For two years, Andy Godfrey was a member of The Fitness Zone, a 24-hour exercise facility that was then owned by Rogers Police Department Detective Thad Shaw. In March, when Shaw decided to sell for an undisclosed amount, Godfrey jumped at the opportunity.

He kept the name and moved the gym to a 10,000-SF space in Dixieland Mall. Excluding the cost of the business itself, Godfrey invested an estimated $40,000 to launch a new version of The Fitness Zone.

The facility now features a racquetball court, aerobics classes, exercise machines, free weights, Taekwondo sessions and a children’s area. Supplements and some specialty foods are also available for sale.

Although some professional bodybuilders use the gym, intimidation won’t be part of working out at The Fitness Zone, Godfrey said. Clients can come and go as they please, and he offers to teach customers about the equipment in the gym.

The club sports about 785 memberships, and members pay $26 per month.
