Billy Arthur Jordan, 19, was arrested for allegedly slashing the throat of Charles Condra on May 10 at a pay phone outside the Campus Book Store on Fayetteville’s Dickson Street. Condra lived, and Jordan was arrested and charged with first-degree battery in what appears to be a gang-related incident.

With $65 million in private money being spent over the past decade to renovate Fayetteville’s entertainment district, supporters of the beautification project had hoped the days of violent crime on Dickson Street were over.

Although that’s apparently not the case, Fayetteville police say incidents of violent crime on Dickson Street are fewer and less severe than in the past.

The rejuvenation of Dickson Street began in 1992 with the opening of the Walton Arts Center at the corner of Dickson Street and West Avenue.

The police report stated that Jordan allegedly used an “unknown object” to cut Condra’s throat. Condra then walked two blocks down Dickson Street to C.D. Lounge, and police were called because he was bleeding from the neck.

Condra told police that, during the incident, Jordan said, “Don’t you f*** with the B.H.! Your time is up!” Condra said B.H. stood for “brotherhood,” a group of “friends that had turned into more of a gang.” Condra said he was no longer part of the group.

Jordan denied any involvement with the crime.
