After 25 years of working as a certified public accountant, David White wanted a change. When the 10-hour days of number-crunching tax seasons began to wear on White, he opened a mattress and futon store named Mattress Direct.

Now, working as a CPA only part-time and independently, White sells Corsicana Bedding mattress sets that range in price from $77-$700. Product warranties vary from 1-25 years, White said, and average sets from Mattress Direct cost $200-$500. The Fayetteville store also offers product delivery for $25.

White sells 15 lines of mattresses, six varieties of futon furniture, and several colors of futon covers in the 3,800-SF shop. Although Mattress Direct is White’s first business to own, he said his work as a CPA allowed him to study many different ventures before choosing a mattress retail shop.
