Working as an information systems security officer at Tyson Foods Inc., Michael Arcana earned a reputation as a technological guru. So, Arcana opened Arcana Technological Solutions Inc. to offer his consulting services to everyone in Northwest Arkansas.

Most inquiries can be answered over the telephone, Arcana said, and the initial consultation is free.

“I believe I have a knack for figuring out what people want and what they’ll need one, two, three years down the line,” Arcana said, adding that the business provides anything from memory installation to upgraded Internet connections. Backed by 13 years of computer experience, Arcana also offers software installation and training.

Arcana charges an average of $50-$80 per hour for his work, depending on the job.

Because consultations make up most of Arcana’s venture and he runs the business from his home, his starting costs totaled less than $1,000.
