A group of about 100 high school athletes and their families were disappointed when Houston Nutt failed to show up at a Dec. 9 luncheon at the Fayetteville Hilton to honor the youngsters.

But the head football coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks made it up to them a couple of hours later when he came to see the students during halftime of the University of Arkansas’ basketball game against the University of Memphis.

Nutt apologized about the banquet, talked to the students and signed autographs for them before returning to his seat for the second half of the game.

The high school Heisman award event was sponsored by Stone & Ward advertising agency of Little Rock and Wendy’s hamburger chain.
