Mr. Clean Ratted Out

We’ve always heard that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is strict with its employees. We’re just glad the world’s largest retailer is based in Bentonville instead of Switzerland.

We recently spoke to an Englishman who once took a job with Cargill Inc. in Geneva.

He arrived at the company-owned apartment complex the night before his first day on the job. Hoping to make a good impression, he unpacked, took a shower and went to bed so he could get a good night’s sleep.

He reported for work on time the next morning and was immediately told he needed to see the human resources director, so he headed for that office.

When he arrived, the human resources director said, “We’ve had a complaint about you.”

Flabbergasted, the Englishman said, “I’ve only just arrived.”

The human resources director said, “Did you take a shower last night?”

The Englishman replied, “Yes.”

“There are no showers allowed after 10 p.m.,” the human resources director said.

The new employee’s neighbors had ratted on him first thing that morning instead of telling him about the rule.

The Englishman said that was one of many rules that he had to be careful to follow while living in Switzerland.

“What can you expect from the people who gave us the cuckoo clock,” he said.
