UA Coaches Top List of Highest Paid
The head basketball and football coaches at the University of Arkansas were the highest paid state employees in Northwest Arkansas for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
At No. 1 on the list, Head Basketball Coach Nolan Richardson received more than $1 million in total compensation for the year.
That figure includes a state salary of $129,664 and $886,600 in supplemental compensation, which included $300,000 from athletic shoe companies, $200,000 from apparel companies, $245,000 from television and radio commercials and appearances, $85,000 for speaking engagements and $35,000 for sports camps.
Head Football Coach Houston Nutt was second on the list with the same state salary as Richardson and another $540,000 in supplemental income for a total of $669,644.
Nutt received $400,000 for television appearances and commercials, $100,000 from athletic shoe companies and $20,000 for speaking engagements.
Athletic Director Frank Broyles ranked No. 3 with a state salary of $150,000 and supplemental compensation of $107,000 for a total of $257,000. Broyles’ additional compensation included $85,000 from the Razorback Foundation, a private organization that assists athletics at the UA.
As far as state salary alone goes, John A. White, chancellor of the UA’s main campus in Fayetteville, was at the top with $235,750.
David Gearhart, vice chancellor for university advancement, held the next spot with a $205,000 salary. He was followed in the list by Doyle Z. Williams, dean of the UA’s Sam M. Walton College of Business Administration, with $197,109.
UA employees held the first 68 spots on the list. Bob Burns, president of Northwest Arkansas Community College in Rogers, was No. 70 with a salary of $110,513.
A total of 112 employees of the UA campus in Fayetteville made salaries of $100,000 or more during the fiscal year.
