Stephen and Julie Brents, the owners of Brents, a clothing company based in Fayetteville, have reached a licensing agreement with Earl’s Apparel in Crocket, Texas, to manufacture the Brents line.

“It was just kind of a natural evolution,” Stephen Brents said.

Earl’s Apparel, which has been in business for 27 years, will make the Brents clothing, which Stephen describes as “classic Americana — retro and military-inspired from the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.” Earl’s will also handle shipping and storage of garments in a warehouse near Houston.

Stephen and Julie Brents will continue to handle design, marketing, merchandising and sales. Previously, the manufacturing was done by several different companies throughout the Southeast, Stephen Brents said.

The Brents, who closed their outlet store at 701 W. North St. in Fayetteville, had about $2 million in sales this year, with about 80 percent of that coming from retailers in Japan, where their line has traditionally been very popular.
