Hotel Developer Hammons Returns to Rogers
Renowned developer John Q. Hammons of John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts Inc. of Springfield, Mo., is back in the hotel picture in Rogers.
Last spring, Hammons pulled out when there was a possibility of two hotels going up in the west Rogers area off Interstate 540. He said two hotels wouldn’t work in that location.
But Hammons will buy out the interest of Pinnacle Hospitality Group LLC, which consists of Gary Combs, Carla Tyson, James T. “Red” Hudson, Collins Haynes, Bill Schwyhart and George Westmoreland. That group was one week away from starting construction on the Pinnacle Hills Sheraton Four Points Hotel and Convention Center when Hammons came in with another offer.
Hammons said there was nothing official, “Yet.”
A press release is scheduled for Oct. 31.
It is likely Hammons will forgo the plan to make the hotel a 200-room Sheraton, opting for a much more expansive Marriott. Hammons, who has built 138 hotels in 42 years, currently has 53 hotels across 21 states. He has three in Arkansas — Embassy Suites in Little Rock, and the Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn in Springdale. He has two Marriott Hotels — Tucson, Ariz. (250 rooms), and Madison, Wis. (292 rooms), and a Courtyard by Marriott (142 rooms) in Springfield, Mo.
