Bryan Hendricks, an Arkansas native and former Northwest Arkansas writer, has written a book about the state’s hiking trails.

Published by Out There Press of Asheville, N.C., Hendricks’ book includes trails from every major backcountry area of the state, complete with how-to-get-there instructions, topographical descriptions and details about lodging accommodations. Whether the area is suited for hiking, camping, canoeing or kayaking, fishing and mountain biking, Hendricks has provided pertinent details.

And, lest a camper forget, Hendricks even provides details on where the nearest candy machines and pay telephones are located.

“Arkansas: A Guide to Backcountry Travel & Adventure” is the latest in a similar series from Out There Press. Other titles in the series include the states of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Hendricks spent six years as an outdoors writer for Donrey Media Group newspapers, including the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith and The Morning News in Springdale.

Hendricks currently works for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The book sells for $16 and is available at the Pack Rat Outdoor Center, the Outer Layer, Barnes & Noble. Amazon.com. For an extra $2 to cover postage and handling, Hendricks will autograph the book and ship it himself. Send checks or money orders to Bryan Hendricks at 9120 NE 34th St., Spencer, Okla. 73084.
