Donald Sten-Tel Transcription Services is a new division of Donald Court Reporting Inc., which has been in business for 17 years. The new division offers transcription services to a much larger group of customers than the court reporting division has traditionally done.

Cindy Donald, owner of the company, has worked in transcription since she graduated 17 years ago from court reporting school in San Francisco. After opting to move back to this area, Donald decided to start a court reporting business that is actually a franchise she purchased from some reporters in Massachusetts.

“I just thought it was something that would fit in with this area,” says Donald.

Donald Sten-Tel Transcription Services offers 24-hour phone-in transcription services to customers who need extra secretarial help. Donald’s service offers them transcriptions that are handled electronically. A customer simply dials Donald’s number, keys in an identification number, follows the

prompts through the dictation or recording process and, within 24-48 hours, the document can be retrieved electronically. When it’s printed out, the customer has a finished document.

Donald says her target group includes doctors and lawyers, but her brother, Phillip Donald, is also trying to interest local police departments in their service.

Donald says her company offers confidentiality, customized formats to fit individual customers, increased efficiency for customers and competitive prices with its outsourcing of documents. Also, detailed records are kept in case the customer needs another copy later.

“We archive the text files forever,” says Donald.
