Forty Under 40: Karen Light
Karen Light, 30, is a woman from Hope who’s managed to combine her two areas of professional interest – law and business – into one job.
In her position as director of plan design for Fayetteville financial firm Greenwood & Associates, Light helps clients set up and design retirement plans for their companies.
She studied economics at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Va., and then moved to Washington, D.C., where she lived for four years.
The desire to study law lured Lite back to her home state where, two years ago, she graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law.
Through a friend, Light made a connection with the Greenwood firm and found she enjoyed the work.
Light says she continues to learn about the financial services industry through her job. She’s also taking on additional responsibilities, having recently begun to do compliance work for the company.
A firm believer in community service, Light serves on the board for Habitat for Humanity of Fayetteville and is a member of the Junior League of Northwest Arkansas.
She has also worked as a “Fun Friend” mentoring students at Bates Elementary School.
