Forty Under 40: Jack V. Moyer
Jack V. Moyer, 31, has been in the hotel business all of his adult life.
Moyer grew up in Elmira, N.Y. He received an associate’s degree from Paul Smiths College, a hotel school in New York state. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Penn State University, where he was named the outstanding hotel graduate that year.
Moyer developed a love for historical hotels while training at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
He then went to work for Adams Mark Hotels, first as executive housekeeper in Tulsa and later as assistant general manager in Mobile, Ala. While in Tulsa, Moyer was named manager of the year for the Adams Mark hotel chain.
Moyer moved to Eureka Springs in February 1995 to be general manager of the Crescent Hotel and the Basin Park Hotel, which are both owned by Marty and Elise Roenigk.
The 68-room Crescent was constructed in 1886. It is currently undergoing a $4 million renovation that began in 1997 and is scheduled to be completed in 2002.
The Basin Park Hotel was built in 1905. A renovation of that hotel was completed in 1995.
Moyer is also chairman of the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce and is currently reorganizing the chamber.
Moyer says attitude is the most important thing in the hotel business.
