Forty Under 40: J. Kevin Brown
J. Kevin Brown, 32, has trouble telling work from play.
The vice president for information systems at StaffMark Inc. has been working with computer systems since his freshman year at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
“This was a hobby turned to a profession,” Brown says.
“Work is still play, which makes it a lot easier, obviously. As long as it’s fun, I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.”
Brown worked for First City Bank of Houston during his freshman year of college. He grew up in Houston and received a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Baylor in 1989.
He then worked for Electronic Data Systems in Plano, Texas, and Sybase Inc., a software company based in Emeryville, Calif., before landing at StaffMark in 1996.
Brown has been instrumental in helping StaffMark coordinate information systems with the 42 companies it has acquired since going public in 1996 with the merger of six founding companies.
StaffMark provides diversified staffing, professional and consulting services to businesses, professional and service organizations, medical niches and governmental agencies.
