Water, Anyone?
For most people, it’s probably a snore: The Arkansas Soil and Water Commission is asking voters to allow it to issue $300 million in bonds, the proceeds of which would be used to build new and improve existing water and sewer treatment facilities in the state.
Of course, if you don’t have water or sewer, the issue may seem more critical.
Last time around, the proposal was narrowly defeated. Supporters were particularly disappointed that Washington County voters failed to pass it because various communities there have benefited from past bond issues.
But we hear that a Washington County group is at least considering lending its support to the proposal.
That group consists of the business leaders who formed Water 2000, which is raising money to make low-interest loans to residents without reliable water supplies.
