Bank of Fayetteville has purchased the building next door that housed Matilda’s clothing store for the past 56 years. Late last year, Virginia McAllister closed the store after 36 years in business. Her mother-in-law, Matilda McAllister, purchased the business in 1941.
Now vacant, the building will add about 2,000 SF of space to the Bank of Fayetteville’s main office. That, says bank chairman John Lewis, will “dramatically help” in easing cramped conditions for the office, at least for another six months to a year.
Lewis says it’s likely that mortgage and investment banking offices will move into the space.
The building, built in 1887, is immediately south of the bank.
