In an email late Thursday (Aug. 22), State Rep. Andy Mayberry (R-Hensley) let local supporters know about his plans to announce his future plans tomorrow afternoon.

I wanted to give my Saline County Republican friends a heads-up about an announcement I will make tomorrow. I plan to enter the open race for Lieutenant Governor and will hold a press conference Friday at 5:30 p.m. to make that information public. The event will be in the Old Supreme Court Room at the State Capitol.

If you can make it, I’d love to have you there! And bring others who might want to come, too!

Take care and be blessed,

Andy

Mayberry is currently serving his second term in the Arkansas House of Representatives.  He previously ran for Congress as the Republican nominee against Congressman Vic Snyder in 2006.  During his time in the legislature, he has focused heavily on pro-life legislation and was the lead sponsor of the law banning abortion in Arkansas at the point at which babies experience pain (20 weeks).  Mayberry serves on the Board of Directors for Arkansas Right to Life.
Mayberry will join his colleague Rep. Charlie Collins (R-Fayetteville) in the Lt. Governor’s race. State Sen. Johnny Key (R-Mountain Home) is also being mentioned as a potential candidate but has not yet announced.  Businessman John Burkhalter is the only announced Democratic candidate.
Something to watch. Mayberry’s wife and former Little Rock TV reporter Julie Mayberry is rumored to be considering running for the open House District to succeed Andy.
