Clean & Green: Pulaski County Residents To See Major Recycling Change

For our central Arkansas audience, you’re likely to start seeing a major change in your curbside recycling program.

Starting this week, the Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District And Waste Management will be shifting away from 18-gallon recycling bins to much larger 65-gallon carts.

The new carts begin distribution to residents in Little Rock, North Little Rock and Sherwood beginning Monday, Feb. 27. Also, recycling pick-up will be curtailed to every other week routes in an effort to reduce gas emissions.

The new concept is called single-stream recycling and it will allow residents to put any type of recyclable item (non-organic) in the cart without having to sort.

There is also a way for households to be paid, so-to-speak, for recycling with a new incentive plan called Recycle Bank. The incentive plan could qualify groups for discounts and coupons.
