Annual construction permits are threatening to reach the $1 billion mark in Northwest Arkansas’ four largest cities.

Through the month of November this year, $907.49 million in residential and commercial building permits have been issued in Bentonville, Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers. The total has already eclipsed the $902 million in permits issued all of last year and $773 million in 2014.

Broken down by sector, residential permit value in the four cities through the first 11 months this year totaled $417.65 million, up 16.4% from $358.79 million for the entire year in 2015. Commercial permit value through the first 11 months totaled $489.81 million, up 8.6% from $450.88 million in all of 2015.

November permit values in the four cities totaled $71.84 million, a drop of 20% from $89.73 million in November 2015. Activity was flat compared to October, when new permit values totaled $71.53 million.

Bentonville has the largest year-to-date permit value with $308.97 million through the first 11 months, while Fayetteville had permits totaling $219.34 million. Construction activity in Springdale totaled $202.48 million through November, and in Rogers the building permit value was $176.70 million.
