Tyson Fresh Meats Inc., a division of Springdale-based Tyson Foods Inc., began voluntarily recalling wholesale packages of ground beef chuck produced at its plant in Dakota City, Neb., after a sample of the product analyzed by the USDA was found to contain E. coli.

The company is recalling 40,948 pounds of the meat.

There have been no illnesses associated with the product, the company said in a news release Friday, and there is no danger to consumers as long as this, or any other ground beef product, is properly handled and cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees.

The affected meat was shipped to food distributors in 16 states, but none in Arkansas.
