Growing ComiCon-way to hold fourth annual weekend event

ComiCon-way returns for a fourth year beginning Friday (Nov. 13) in Conway. The weekend-long event will begin 5 p.m. at the Faulkner County Library and move to the Conway Expo Center for the remainder of the weekend. The convention concludes Sunday evening at 6 p.m.

ComiCon-way is the last of three Central Arkansas comic conventions this year and has grown so much that officials moved the bulk of the show to a bigger location at the Conway Expo Center.

Among the special guests attending this year’s convention is pioneer programmer Donna Bailey of Little Rock who helped create the arcade game Centipede for Atari.

Todd Jones, with Talk Business & Politics, caught up with Faulkner County Youth Services Librarian Kara Dyer to get more information about this year’s event.

TB&P: What features are new this year?
Dyer: This year we are having a live drawing duel with some of our guests, CosPlay red carpet photo op, and a new venue, over 40,000 square feet at the Conway Expo Center.

TB&P: Who are some of the guests coming to ComiCon-way?
Dyer: Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza, Harley Quinn artist Chad Hardin, Marvel Artist Khoi Pham and Marvel and DC artist Ken Lashley.

TB&P: ComiCon-way will be successful if … ?
Dyer: Everyone enjoys themselves and the show keeps delivering the type fun that the fans are looking forward too.

TB&P: What kind of things are you looking forward to improving or including in the future?
Dyer: We moved to a larger venue with more parking and we’re hoping to keep bringing our fans the biggest names in the comic industry.

TB&P: What areas of the country do you anticipate attendees coming from?
Dyer: We’re hoping to see people come from all our surrounding states to include Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
