Republican Jimmy Gazaway announced Monday (Oct. 19) his candidacy for Arkansas State Representative in District 57, which covers Greene County. Rep. Mary Broadaway, D-Paragould, who is not seeking re-election, holds the seat.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be a Republican candidate for House District 57.” Gazaway announced. “I am a conservative Republican who believes in the right to life, in protecting our second amendment rights, in limited and efficient government, and in lowering taxes so that hard working Arkansans can keep more of their hard earned money.”

Gazaway is an attorney in private practice in Paragould. Since 2008, Gazaway has served as a deputy prosecuting attorney and has prosecuted several high-profile cases, including cases of capital murder, first degree murder, manslaughter, rape, and sexual assault, among many others.

“I believe my experience as a practicing attorney and particularly as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney will help me be an effective legislator for our community. As a prosecuting attorney, I understand the sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers and how important it is to keep our community safe. As a legislator, I will always stand up for protecting our community and for law enforcement.”

Gazaway also serves as counsel to several local municipalities.

Gazaway earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, with honors, from Arkansas State University in 2003 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2006. He has been licensed to practice law in Arkansas since 2006.

Gazaway is a member of the Greene County Bar Association, Arkansas Bar Association, Arkansas Prosecuting Attorneys Association, the Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce, Paragould Young Professionals, and Leadership Paragould class XIX.

Gazaway and his wife Jessica, a teacher at Greene County Tech, reside in Paragould and have one daughter, Julianna.
