Tolbert: Legislators On Twitter

When I first started writing about the Arkansas legislature in 2009, Twitter was a relatively new phenomenon.  About the only two legislators using it back then were State Reps. Steve Harrelson and Mark Martin – both of whom also had blogs. Around that time, I remember a state senator asking me on the way to the Gillett Coon Supper why would anyone bother with Twitter.

Now, most state legislators at least have a Twitter account. Some of them tweet multiple times a day with updates on what they are working on, thinking about, or even to discuss and debate issues. If you want to keep up with the Arkansas General Assembly you need to be on Twitter. In fact, 21 out of 35 state senators and 71 out of 100 state representatives are on the social media platform.
