Hobbs State Park Announces Dates of Free Astronomy Programs for 2015

For many years Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area has partnered with the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society to be able to offer free astronomy instruction, special topic programs, and night viewing to the general public.  That tradition continues for the year 2015.

Each regular astronomy night (star party) at Hobbs State Park begins with the Sugar Creek group presenting a 30 minute beginner program on finding your way around the night sky.  This is followed by a special topic program, and finally, weather permitting, night sky viewing through the SCAS’s high powered telescopes.

Since the night sky changes every month, there is always something new to view each program.  The following are the free astronomy programs scheduled at Hobbs State Park for 2015:

January 17, 2015 – Class 4:30 p.m.     Night viewing 5:30 p.m.

March 21, 2015 – Class 6:30 p.m.    Night viewing begins at 7:30 p.m.
This is a special night, in fact, a “Messier Marathon". Night viewing will extend from sundown to sunrise.

April 25, 2015 – “Astronomy Day” –  Activities begin at 4:00 p.m.  These will include: Daytime solar observing, teacher in-service, star party, and other activities

July 18, 2015 – Class 7:30 p.m.     Night viewing 8:30 p.m.

September 12, 2015 – Class 6:30 p.m.    Night viewing 7:30 p.m.

November 14, 2015 – Class 4:30 p.m.    Night viewing 5:30 p.m
