Recent Audubon research has concluded that climate change is the most immediate and significant threat to the future existence of birds in North America.  According to the latest scientific Audubon findings, nearly half of North American bird species are in peril.

Dr. Dan Scheiman, Bird Conservation Director for Audubon Arkansas, a state office of the National Audubon Society, will present this new research at Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area, highlighting implications for Arkansas birds.  He will discuss the individual and collective opportunities that exist in Arkansas to lower carbon emissions and protect imperiled species.

Scheiman has a B.S. from Cornell University, M.S. from Eastern Illinois University, and Ph.D. from Purdue University.  He and his staff monitor birds and other Arkansas wildlife, restore wildlife habitat, and help Arkansans improve their local environments.  He has been birding for over 25 years.  In the nine years he has lived in Arkansas he has seen 353 of the 413 bird species documented in the state.

The public is invited, and in fact encouraged, to come to Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area to hear Dr. Scheiman’s essential report.  According to Scheiman, “There is something that all of us can do as individuals to preserve our Arkansas wildlife.”
