Night Stroll

A hike around the Historic Van Winkle Trail at Hobbs State Park makes for an easy and interesting outing, but what would the experience be like at night?  Beckie Moore, seasonal interpreter at Hobbs State Park says, “Hiking a trail at night just isn’t the same as hiking it during the day.  It’s like you’re in a whole new world, yet still very much a part of Mother Nature’s domain.”
According to Moore, “At night, when the wind is still, you can hear the wonderful sounds that you could never hear during the day.  The fluttering noises of the bats with their occasional squeaks, and the unique sound of the whippoorwill are only temporary distractions from the hoot of the great horned owl, or the ‘Who cooks for you?  Who cooks for you-all?’ sound of the barred owl.
Because of Moore’s love for night sounds, Hobbs now has another guided experience the public can enjoy.  Bring the family and join park interpreter Beckie Moore at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday September 7, 2013 at the parking lot of the Historic Van Winkle Trail for a memorable tour of the sounds of an Ozark night.
