A powerful tornado ripped through the heart of Jonesboro on March 28, 2020, and all but leveled The Mall at Turtle Creek. The mall is gone, and now the land where it once stood is up for auction.

The highest bid currently on the property is $1 million.

Atlantic Capital Partners will accept bids on the 38-acre property through Wednesday (Sept. 10). About 30 acres of the development is land cleared after the remnants of the mall were removed following the destruction caused by the EF3 tornado.

“The Development at Turtle Creek offers a tremendous opportunity to acquire and develop the most desirable parcel in Jonesboro,” the listing states.

Three restaurants — Chick-fil-A, Chili’s and Chuck E. Cheese — are leasing buildings still standing on the other 8 acres. The development site is surrounded by Target, JCPenney and Dillard’s.

All three have agreed to allow for about 100,000 square feet of building to be done on the site, according to the listing. There is no debt owed on the development site. The amount of income generated from the leases was not released.

Reportedly, the mall was the last large enclosed mall built in the United States. It opened in 2006, and was sold for $96 million in 2013.
