Citizens Bank announced Tuesday (July 23) the hiring of longtime banking and investment professional Chris Wewers as its new CFO.

“In his new role, Chris brings extensive expertise and insight that will be invaluable to the strategic initiatives of the bank,” said Jeff Teague, Chairman and CEO of Citizens Bank. “We are confident that Chris, with more than two decades of executive experience in the industry, will make a great addition to our team.”

Wewers previously served as CFO for Southern Bancorp, where he oversaw financial management for all three of the bank’s entities. Effective immediately, he will take on all responsibilities as CFO for Citizens Bank.

“Chris’s vision and proven track record in financial leadership will be a tremendous asset to Citizens Bank,” said Vernon Scott, president of Citizens Bank. “We are thrilled to welcome Chris to our executive team and look forward to the positive impact he will make.”

Wewers is a member of Rotary International and the Pay It Forward Foundation. An alumnus of the University of Arkansas and Henderson State University, he serves as vice chairman of the Henderson State University Foundation Board of Directors and chairman of the university’s Business Advisory Council.

“I am honored to join Citizens Bank in this capacity,” Wewers said. “This is an exciting time for the bank, and I am fortunate for the opportunity to contribute to its continued growth and success alongside this talented group of professionals.”

Batesville-based Citizens Bank was founded in 1953 and has assets today exceeding $1.3 billion.
