Local educator featured in new movie ‘CAMP’

Ann Ayres, librarian and teacher in Bentonville Schools, was chosen to act in a feature film that a former student wrote and directed.

“CAMP” is playing in limited release beginning this weekend (April 12) at the Malco Rogers Towne Center and Siloam Springs 6 theaters.

“The movie, was written and directed by Jacob Roebuck, who attended school at Bentonville’s Thomas Jefferson, R.E. Baker, and Old High Elementary in the early 80s.

While a student at R.E. Baker, Roebuck initiated a life-long friendship with Ayres. When Roebuck was casting for Margaret Summerfield, a wealthy oil heiress, he knew Ayres would be perfect for the role.

“We needed a woman could play someone regal and compassionate, and who would light up the room with do-good optimism,” said Roebuck. “Ann fit the bill.”

Inspired by true stories from camps for abused and neglected children, the motion picture “CAMP”, a sophomore project for Roebuck Media, is being released in approximately 100 theaters by Freestyle Releasing. Word Distribution is slated to release CAMP to for home video in August.
 
“The movie shares the story of hope on the big screen that camps provide to these forgotten children,” said Roebuck, who thought of the idea for the script when volunteering at a Royal Family Kids camp.

Royal Family Kids is a network of over 150 churches across the country that provide camps, clubs and mentorships for abused and neglected kids.
