Tyson Foods recalls chicken due to allergen
Tyson Foods recalled approximately 127,000 pounds of uncooked breaded chicken tenderloins and uncooked chicken tenderloin fritters because the products contain soy, a known allergen, which was not declared on the label, according to USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The meat giant says the recalled chicken was produced between March 1 and March 27 at the company’s Russellville facility and shipped to food service companies nationwide for further distribution to restaurants and institutions.
It was not sold to retail outlets.
The problem occurred as a result of a label change following reformulation of the product. A marinade ingredient that included an incorrect sub-ingredient (concentrated soy protein) was not declared on the label, FSIS said. Tyson Foods and FSIS have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
The products subject to recall include:
• 20-lb. packages of "SPARE TIME Uncooked Chicken Tenderloin Fritters" bearing the establishment number "P-5839" inside the USDA mark of inspection and a case code of "7083861."
• 10-lb. packages of "Tyson UNCOOKED, BREADED CHICKEN TENDERLOINS" bearing the establishment number "P-5839" inside the USDA mark of inspection and a case code of "7083928."
