Economic developer says 200 jobs coming to Newport

A significant jobs creation announcement in the city of Newport will be made on Sept. 24, Executive Director of the Newport Economic Development Commission Jon Chadwell told Talk Business & Politics.

The name of the company and what it will produce hasn’t been released, but the venture is expected to create about 200 jobs, he said.

The jobs will be office-based with salary and commission opportunities. Chadwell said the project would result in as much as $5 million in investment.

NASCAR Exfinity driver Kyle Weatherman will attend the announcement ceremony slated to be held at the Newport Economic Development Commission office in downtown Newport.

The driver will sign autographs for fans. Corporate representatives, state and local officials will also attend the event.

Employment applications will be accepted at that time and the name of the company will be unveiled at the Sept. 24 press announcement.
