Trivia night makes more Friends

ROGERS — A lot of knowledge and a little luck were required to take home one of 20 prizes offered at the Rogers Trivia Night, a fundraising and membership event presented by the Friends of the Rogers Historical Museum. The affair drew a crowd of about 90 to the Serendipity Events Center in downtown Rogers Friday night (June 1).
Friends old and new enjoyed catering by Bread-n-Butter Bakery Café and took part in a trivia contest/drawing. Participants were asked questions – a mix of general knowledge and Rogers history – with multiple choice answers. Names of those with correct answers went into the prize drawing.
Prizes ranged from a flat-screen TV to a self-propelled lawn mower, a Daisy air rifle and gift certificates to local businesses including Rolando’s and Stevette’s Fine Fashions.
The local history questions dealt mostly with businesses located in historic buildings. Others challenged guests to guess the year a picture was taken.
Through it all, master of ceremonies and executive director of Main Street Rogers Kerry Jensen kept the crowd entertained with facts about the museum and information “from that deep vault in the museum where Dr. [Gaye] Bland keeps all the trivia.”
Bland, director of the Rogers Historical Museum, said the Friends play an important role, and “provide support for collections purchases, which is very important to us.” Funding from Friends also helps with needs not covered in the city’s budget. The museum is a city department.
The museum boasts 47,000 objects in its permanent collection.
“We could not have grown and accomplished all we have without the support of our Friends group, and we urge anyone who loves area history and/or supports education in our area to join,” Bland said.
Friends members get a newsletter filled with museum and local events, free admission to exhibits where there's a fee and 25 percent off purchases in the museum gift shop. Individual memberships are $15; family memberships are $25.
