A vibrant image by Jeremy Mason McGraw, a professional photographer living in downtown Eureka Springs, was selected for the official poster for the 2012 May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs. This is the festivals’s 25th year.

McGraw received $250 and his image will be used on all advertising and marketing materials related to the festival.

The piece, which he calls “Energy in the Streets,” demonstrates the ever-merging worlds of digital and physical. Several exposures captured “in camera” were layered to created the finished product.

“Although digital compositing … was used to make the finished piece, all of the elements were created in the physical world with long exposures, gelled LED lights and stencils with a process called “light painting,” McGraw said. It took three days to complete.

The contest was open only to residents in Carroll County and only original artwork was allowed.

The month-long festival includes dozens of events, such as free concerts in Basin Spring Park, the 10th Annual High School Art Exhibit, Downtown Gallery Strolls, an ARTrageous Parade and the 22nd Annual White Street Studio Walk.
