Tyson Foods breaks ground on $355 million bacon plant in Kentucky
Tyson Foods is building a $355 million, 400,000-square-foot bacon and pork processing plant in Bowling Green, Ky., with company and state and local officials breaking ground on Tuesday (Feb. 2).
When the plant opens in late 2023 it will employ 450 people and help the company meet a growing demand for Wright bacon and Jimmy Dean sausage products sold at retail.
“Tyson Foods announced this tremendous investment in Warren County just over three months ago, and I am thrilled to join the company’s leaders for today’s groundbreaking as they quickly move forward with the project,” said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. “This commitment to create hundreds of jobs in Bowling Green is amazing news for the workforce throughout the region and builds on Tyson’s already impressive presence in our state. I look forward to our continued growth together.”
Tyson said this project is part of its commitment to meet increasing retail and foodservice demand for bacon products and deliver on its strategy of accelerating long-term growth aligned to consumer trends.
The plant will include robotics and automated technologies to maximize production efficiency and employee safety, according to the release.
Springdale-based Tyson Foods will post first fiscal quarter earnings on Feb. 7.
