Jonesboro tops $2 million in sales and use collections for one month

Craighead County and Jonesboro have consistently set all-time sales and use tax collection records in recent years, and no month has been better than February in terms of setting all-time monthly records.

It turns out 2021 won’t be the exception to that rule.

Jonesboro collected $2.065 million in sales and use tax in February, a 6.1% ($118,048) increase above what was collected in the same month in 2020, according to the city. Year-to-date, the city has collected $3.780 million, a 3.9% ($141,860) when compared to the first two months of 2020.

The collected totals are 3% higher than the projected budget total for the year. The amount collected for the month of February is the most ever collected in a month in the history of the city.

Sales and use tax collections are tabulated every 60 days, meaning the February total was actually collected in December 2020.

Craighead County had similar growth patterns for the month and year. In February, the county collected $2.3 million in sales and use tax, which is about 4% higher than last year. For the year, the county has collected $4.26 million in sales and use taxes.
