Many businesses are slashing jobs in response to the economic upheaval caused by the spread of COVID-19, but one manufacturer in Jonesboro is reportedly set to increase its labor pool by 25%.

Nice-Pak, a wet wipe manufacturer that supplies Walmart and other retailers, will reportedly hire 100 new workers, but Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin told Talk Business & Politics he’s not sure of the exact number, but an expansion is in the works.

A timetable for when the new hires will take place has not been released.

The new workers will be a mix of temporary and permanent employees, according to the company. There has been a surge in consumer buying during the last couple of weeks, and the push to sanitize surfaces to stop the spread of the disease has led to a spike in orders, the company reported.

The Jonesboro facility already has about 400 employees and has at least 10 lines. It opened its doors in 2009 with two lines and about 35 employees.

Nice-Pak states that its the leading manufacturer of wet wipes in the world.

The company was formed in 1957 and its first product was moist wet-wipes for Kentucky Fried Chicken. It has provided products for Walmart for 35 years. Those products include Parent’s Choice baby wipes, Grime Boss wipes, and a selection of Equate brand wipes.
