January building permits soar in region’s ‘Big 4’ cities

Residential building permits in the region’s four largest cities soared 41.6% in January, according to the data collected by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal.

The combined number of permits issued in Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale totaled 119 in the first month of 2020, up sharply compared with 84 permits in the first month of 2019.

The combined value was $37.58 million, up a whopping 77% from $21.23 million in January 2019.

Building officials issued the greatest number of residential permits in Fayetteville in January: 48 of them with a combined value of $14.64 million. That compares with 42 permits valued at $12.12 million in January 2019.

Activity from other cities was:

  • Bentonville: 32 permits, $11.66 million (January 2020); 14 permits, $3.47 million (January 2019).
  • Rogers: 22 permits, $6.8 million (January 2020); 17 permits, $2.1 million (January 2019).
  • Springdale: 17 permits, $4.48 million (January 2020); 11 permits, $3.54 million (January 2019).

Residential building permit activity is also off to a strong start in Bella Vista. Building officials there issued 32 permits with a combined value of $7.85 million in January. That compares with 24 permits valued at $7.06 million in January 2019.
