Jonesboro, Craighead County keep up record-setting sales tax collection pace

Northeast Arkansas’ economy continues to thrive if sales and use tax collections are any indication of consumer spending in Craighead County and Jonesboro.
In October, the city collected $1.633 million in sales and use taxes, a 5.72% ($88,388) increase from October 2018, according to the city. When compared to the budget, it’s a 22.52% ($300,233) increase.
For the year, the city has collected $15.893 million in sales and use taxes, a 4.92% ($745,389) increase as compared to the first 10 months of last year. The city is 4.85% ($735,078) ahead of its budgeted projections through October of this year.
Craighead County has experienced similar growth trends this year. The county finished October with $1.833 million in sales and use tax collections, a 5% increase from the same month in 2018.
For the year, the county is up about 6% as compared to the first eight months of last year, according to the Craighead County Treasurer’s Office.
