Fayetteville to host more public meetings on Highway 71B plan
The city of Fayetteville will host two public meetings to take comments on a transportation plan for U.S. Highway 71B, between the northern city limits to North Street and Rock Street to Cato Springs Road. As the city prepares the transportation plan, it seeks comment on the 4-mile corridor over the next four months, between November and January.
The concept design input meetings will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 13) and Wednesday (Nov. 14) at First Baptist Church, 20 E. Dickson St., Room M105. City planners will meet with the public and stakeholder groups to consider transportation plans from a high-level point of view. Plans to be discussed include vehicle traffic, bus transit, bicyclists and pedestrians.
Over the next three months, planners will host more public meetings and look into the details of the plan, including how the roadway fits with surrounding neighborhoods and businesses now and how it will decades into the future.
A survey and more information is available here on the 71B corridor plan. Work on the plan started in summer 2018 and is expected to be completed next summer. In July, the city hired consultant RDG of Omaha, Neb., to help with the plan. The urban planning and design firm will take part in the planning process through completion next summer. As part of the $153,066 contract with the city, RDG will include engineering firm Garver and economists Gruen Gruen + Association in the process.
