Walton Family Foundation hires general counsel, people director

The Walton Family Foundation (WFF) has hired Lisa Montez as general counsel and Frances Woodard as people director.
Both positions are new for the Bentonville-based organization.
“The Walton Family Foundation continues to strengthen its staff by recruiting top talent,” WFF executive director Kyle Peterson said in a news release. “Both Lisa and Frances share the principles and values that have guided the work of the foundation for 30 years.”
Montez has worked in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector for 15 years, according to the release. Most recently, Montez was deputy general counsel and assistant secretary at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. She is a graduate of Rice University and the University of Texas School of Law.
Woodard was formerly vice president of human resources at nonprofit organization Human Rights First. She will be responsible for developing and implementing an integrated strategic program for all people-related functions for the WFF, according to the release. She will also lead efforts in recruiting, diversity, equity and inclusion, performance measurement, training and development and recognition and compensation.
Woodard is a certified senior professional of human resources and a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park.
WFF is one of the largest foundations in the country, with nearly a half billion dollars annually in grantmaking. Besides its headquarters in downtown Bentonville, it also has offices in Jersey City, N.J. and Denver, Co.
The organization has about 110 employees.
