NOWDx a finalist in Medical Design Excellence Awards
NOWDiagnostics of Springdale has been named a finalist in the 2017 Medical Design Excellence Awards for its ADEXUSDx product line, the company announced on March 15.
Its rapid point-of-care tests were selected within the Testing and Diagnostic Products and Systems category.
A juror panel comprised of physicians, nurses and technicians — in addition to engineers and ergonomics experts — selected 45 finalists in nine medical technology categories, based on the quality of design and engineering innovation, user-related innovation, patient benefits, business benefits and overall benefit to the healthcare system, according to a NOWDx press release.
Winners will be announced in conjunction with the medical technology expo MD&M East on June 13 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
The awards have been given out since 1998. MDEA’s mission is to “recognize significant achievements in medical product design and engineering that improve the quality of healthcare delivery and accessibility,” according to the award’s website.
It is intended to “celebrate the accomplishments of the medical device manufacturers, their suppliers, and the many people behind the scenes – engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians – who are responsible for the cutting-edge products,” according to a NOWDx press release.
“We are honored to be recognized by the MDEA judges,” Vicki Thompson, director of product development, said in the press release. “We’re proud to see the innovative design of this platform recognized in this way.”
NOWDx specializes in single-drop blood tests for a variety of common conditions and diseases, with results in a matter of minutes, according to the company.
The company has a pregnancy test on the market in the U.S. and Europe, in addition to three cardiac tests and three toxicology tests in Europe.
NOWDx is also developing tests for sexually transmitted diseases, food intolerances and common infectious diseases.
