Christmas Community Picnic slated at St. Bernards Auditorium
The Neighbors in Need NEA group will partner with the McCullough-Watkins Youth Foundation (MWYF), to host a Christmas Community Picnic on Saturday (Dec. 13) at the St. Bernards Auditorium in Jonesboro. The event is designed to support local families, particularly those facing financial challenges during the holiday season.
The cost of living has risen this year and wages haven’t kept pace, meaning more families are struggling financially, according to organizers.
“Our goal is to help low-income families, but this event is really for the entire community,” event organizer Brad Dillon said. “We want everyone to feel welcome and cared for during the holiday season.”
Families who attend will get free toys while supplies last, holiday activities for children, food, drinks, music, and a visit from Santa Claus.
“A fun, family-loving vibe is the goal,” Dillon added. “There will be upbeat music, food, toys being passed out, and activities for kids throughout the event.”
Organizers said the event would not be possible without the support of local sponsors and community partners. At this time, toy donations and volunteers are the greatest needs, with volunteers especially needed to assist with serving meals and helping with event activities.
“Toys and donations toward toys are the biggest need right now,” said Dillon. “Volunteers to help serve meals are also critical. Community support is what makes this event possible.”
