Revisions made to Pocahontas Bypass project

After receiving public feedback during a meeting earlier this summer, the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has revised the design for the proposed Pocahontas Bypass project.

The proposed project will provide a two-lane roadway on new location north of Pocahontas connecting Arkansas Highway 90 to U.S. 67 on the south side of the city. The project will cost about $19.5 million from state and federal sources. The city will pay about $1.6 million of the project costs.

In response to public comments and to minimize property impacts, the preferred alternative design changes include shifting the Country Club Road alignment to the northeast and adding a retaining wall along Arkansas Highway 90. A roundabout will be installed at the intersection.

The revised design maintains local access while minimizing impacts to nearby businesses. ARDOT appreciates the feedback received from the public and remains committed to ensuring the project reflects the needs and priorities of the community.

U.S. 67 is a major roadway that connects Dallas to Chicago and beyond. It runs through the heart of the Pocahontas business district, and heavy truck traffic often stifles local roadways.

A timetable for completing the project has not been released.
