Sassafras Springs Vineyard & Winery in Springdale recently received the Platinum Best-Of-Class award for its 2021 Sassafras Syrah wine at the 2025 Texas International Wine Competition, according to a news release.
“This year’s competition was intense, with more than 753 wine entries from 29 U.S. states and 12 countries, so we are humbled and excited to hear we won,” owner Gene Long said. “Our Syrah has been a crowd favorite for years, and it is an honor to receive this very special recognition.”
According to the Texas International Wine Competition, “These award-winning wines represent the exceptional talent and passion within today’s wine industry. We are proud to provide a platform that honors winemakers and celebrates global excellence.”
Eleven years ago Gene and Cheryl Long purchased 6 acres for the winery and vineyard. It has since expanded to more than 70 acres and recently opened a new production facility, allowing visitors to witness the wine-making process from vineyard to bottle.
