In 2018, Ryan Sheedy decided to become a stay-at-home dad. He and his wife had recently welcomed twin sons. One of the boys has a rare genetic disorder. Soon Sheedy was in the midst of a litany of visits to the ICU and medical clinics, and his son was taking numerous medications.
Keeping track of all of this information was difficult. Sheedy, along with co-founder Bret Koncak, decided to create mejo, an application that helps track health care information for patients.
“Mejo is a groundbreaking digital health platform transforming the care coordination experience for patients, caregivers and families managing rare and chronic medical conditions,” Sheedy said. “Mejo provides essential tools that empower patients and families to navigate complex medical scenarios effortlessly. Our Care Companion platform simplifies critical health information organization, seamless care coordination among numerous health care providers and instant sharing of vital information.”
Since its inception, the app has expanded, adding advanced features such as a visual narrative storytelling in collaboration with Seattle Children’s, comprehensive document storage, event management, and specialized solutions like My Rett Ally for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation and IgG4ME! for the IgG4-RD community.
“Mejo has consistently grown user growth organically. Our collaborations include prestigious institutions like Seattle Children’s Hospital and influential advocacy groups, amplifying our reach and impact significantly. Thousands of families nationwide now trust mejo to enhance their caregiving journey,” Sheedy said.
The company started generating revenue in 2023. Northwest Arkansas has been instrumental to mejo’s rapid growth, offering an entrepreneurial ecosystem, dynamic health care innovation opportunities and community support. Arkansas’s strategic focus on health care innovation, combined with strong support for startups, has accelerated mejo’s trajectory. It is a member of the Fuel Health Accelerator Cohort.
Within the next five to 10 years, mejo aims to become the global leader in digital care solutions, impacting millions of families worldwide. The company hopes to have an expanded suite of innovative tools, leveraging advanced AI technologies for proactive, personalized caregiving and achieving deeper integration with health care systems globally.
“Our greatest achievement goes beyond numbers,” Sheedy said. “Mejo has tangibly transformed families’ lives, reducing stress, enhancing care efficiency, and enabling caregivers to reclaim valuable time. We’ve cultivated a powerful, engaged community that consistently reports improved care outcomes, strengthened patient-provider relationships, and greater advocacy awareness, highlighting mejo’s profound social impact.”
Editor’s note: This company is a finalist for the Northwest Arkansas Outstanding Business Awards — Startup Business category. Winners will be announced at a luncheon on April 9.
