Northwest Technical Institute (NWTI) in Springdale announced Tuesday (April 29) that David Patty will be its next president.

According to a news release, Patty worked in maintenance and technical training at Springdale-based meat company Tyson Foods. He spent 22 years there, including as associate director of maintenance training, where he oversaw maintenance training programs.

Patty has experience in automation systems and technical training, the release shows. Most recently, he has served as senior manager of automation at Schwan’s Co. in Stilwell, Okla.

Melissa Greenslade, vice president of curriculum and instruction, became interim president in June 2024 after Dr. Jim Rollins resigned for health reasons.

An NWTI spokesman said Patty has accepted the position, but he is still going through the hiring process. Patty’s salary has yet to be determined and will be set by the state, which has a pre-determined pay scale.

“The state of Arkansas is excited to see NWTI, under David’s expertise, enhance short-term training for industrial maintenance, refrigeration, boilers and automation,” said Mike Rogers, the state’s chief workforce officer. “There are strong, viable technical diploma programs and other training underway. Just in time, prescriptive industrial training will be responsive to the immediate needs of industry.”
