Remy Cofield, who recently worked as director of scouting for the Boston Celtics and played basketball for the University of Pennsylvania, is the new University of Arkansas deputy athletics director and general manager of Razorback Athletics.
According to Monday’s (March 24) announcement by the UA, Coalfield’s employment will begin April 1, and he “will oversee the strategic allocation of department and affiliate resources to support Razorback head coaches in the acquisition and retention of championship-caliber athletic talent.”
The news release also said Cofield will “lead player contract negotiations” and help all head coaches implement “each program’s strategic vision.”
Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek said Cofield’s 12 years of professional sports business experience will help the university’s sports programs.
“As we continue to position our sports programs for success, Remy Cofield will play an integral role in assisting our coaches in acquiring and retaining student-athletes to compete in the Southeastern Conference and nationally,” Yurachek noted. “In his tenure with the Boston Celtics, Remy was a key front office player in building a championship franchise. His blend of experience both in sports and business makes him distinctly qualified to help lead our efforts in this new era of college athletics.”
Cofield joined the Boston Celtics, a team in the National Basketball Association, in May 2013 and worked in various roles. Since June 2020, he has been the director of scouting. His previous work includes general manager of the Maine Celtics and general manager of the Maine Red Claws.
“I want to thank the Boston Celtics for their incredible support during my time with the organization,” Cofield said in a statement. “I would not be in this position without the many people there that helped shape my career. I want to say thank you to Hunter Yurachek for trusting me with this incredible opportunity and leadership role within the department. I look forward to working alongside the many talented coaches and department staff, connecting with the Arkansas community and building on the already rich tradition of Razorback Athletics.”
Cofield, who is from Newton, Mass., played basketball at the University of Pennsylvania in the 2007-09 seasons, and was a runner-up for the 2007 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in business administration from Bentley University.
Cofield and his wife Tori have three sons, Mason, Dominic and Quincy.
