Florida-based textile recycling company Sortworthy plans to relocate to Northwest Arkansas and invest $3 million in a “cutting-edge recycling facility that will create 40 jobs over the next five years,” the company announced Monday (Jan. 20).
The move is expected to take place in early 2025. https://www.sortworthy.com/
Sortworthy transforms unwanted clothing and textiles into sellable items like insulation and pillows or repurposes them into new materials. The company’s mission is to divert millions of pounds of textile waste from landfills.
“Textile waste is one of the most significant contributors to pollution, but the good news is that nearly 95% of used clothing can be reused or recycled,” according to a company statement. “At Sortworthy, we see an opportunity to turn waste into resources, creating impactful solutions for a greener future.”
The company noted that Northwest Arkansas was “a natural choice for Sortworthy’s relocation, offering a thriving business ecosystem, a commitment to sustainability, and an unparalleled sense of community. The warmth and ingenuity of the people of Arkansas make this an ideal place for Sortworthy to grow and thrive. We’re eager to be part of this vibrant region, creating jobs, driving innovation, and collaborating with local communities.”
The location of its new facility has yet to be determined as the company looks for a site “in the Bentonville area,” the release shows. A company spokesman said the company is looking at sites between 60,000 and 90,000 square feet. He said the company wants to keep the location confidential until it’s acquired.
